Approximately 100 Mercedes-Benz employees completed five days of service in Bergenfield and 50 Mercedes-Benz employees completed one day of service in support of Habitat Bergen at their Montvale campus.
Mercedes-Benz USA has a longstanding history of giving back in the communities where their employees live and work, supporting community partners that align with the needs of the their local community. The idea of doing “what you can, where you can and giving as much as you can” came to life with this enthusiastic crew.
Volunteers on the Bergenfield construction worksite spackled, painted, and cut and installed drywall to already-insulated sections of the home. The team of volunteers in Montvale built birdhouses, which will be decorated by local high school gifted and talented art students and auctioned off at Habitat Bergen’s 2017 special events. The Montvale team also built several picnic tables.
The house in Bergenfield is a 1,900 square foot, three-bedroom home with two-and-a-half bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a one-car garage. The house is being built to the latest environmental and energy-efficiency standards to provide the future homeowners, Carlos and Geovana Pimentel, with energy-saving opportunities.
“I am truly proud of the ‘can-do spirit’ demonstrated by the entire Mercedes-Benz Montvale team! It makes me extremely proud to see us working together for a great cause and know that we made a difference in someone’s life. Additionally, I picked up some tricks of the trade which will come in handy in my own projects,” said David Tait, General Manager of Engineering Services.

Many of our Mercedes-Benz volunteers continue to volunteer with us throughout the year, attend our community events, and stay in touch with us through our Habitat Happenings newsletter,” said Angela King, Habitat Bergen’s Director of Volunteers.

The goal of Habitat Bergen is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the face of the earth by working in partnership with people in need. Using volunteer labor and donated funds and materials, Habitat Bergen builds or rehabilitates simple, decent houses and sells them to low-income families at cost, but with no interest added.
Habitat Bergen is a people-to-people partnership, which joins all of us together regardless of race, nationality, religion, or socioeconomic status. That partnership begins with the homeowner families (partner families). Habitat Bergen is not a giveaway program, but a joint venture in which those who benefit from the housing ministry are involved in the work at various levels. They help with the construction of their own home, as well as the houses of their neighbors.
