HILLSDALE, N.J. – Demarest Farms has received the OK to rent Hillsdale’s downtown commuter parking lot during the height of its busy “pick-your-own” season, NorthJersey.com reports.
The farm will rent the lot from the borough for a total of 90 cents during the weekends from Labor Day through Halloween, the story says, providing an extra 250 parking spaces for patrons who will be shuttled to the farm.
In June, the Borough Council adopted an ordinance prohibiting parking on 37 nearby streets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays from Aug. 30 through Oct. 30. Borough officials have said the restrictions are in response to safety concerns raised by police.
The farm’s owners recently filed a lawsuit against the borough, saying the restrictions on street parking near the farm violate their right to farm.
