Ragamuffin Parade Draws Familiar Characters To Emerson Fire Department

EMERSON, N.J. — Superheros, monsters and princesses no more than three feet-tall took to the streets for the Emerson Fire Department's Annual Rag-a-Muffin Parade on a chilly weekend day.

The Langs, as characters in "Wizard of Oz," won All-Around Best Costume at this year's Ragamuffin Parade in Emerson.

The department's squad car led the costume-clad youngsters and their parents down High Street toward the department for free hot dogs and a costume contest.

"We mark our calendar every year for this event," said Jacqueline Lang, whose four children won the Best All-Around Costume for the second year in a row as the characters from "Wizard of Oz."

Her three oldest last year came to the Oct. 24 parade dressed as the green birds in the popular computer and smartphone game "Angry Birds."

"We’d like to really thank the Emerson Fire Department for hosting these great events for all of us all the time," Lang said.
