How Cold Was It? An LBI Water Tower Sprung A Leak Talk about an ice bucket challenge: A water tower on Long Beach Island sprung a leak during Monday's Arctic-type freeze. Allison Howley Cordes said water was "gushing down" from what experts said was likely a valve that didn't close properly in the Ship Bottom tower. Police closed off the street as the water created a virtual skating rink.
