Body Of Renowned Researcher Who Drowned In Hudson Swim Between Tappan Zee, GWB Recovered
UPDATE: The body of an internationally-recognized AIDS researcher and activist who drowned during the next-to-last-leg of a 120-mile marathon was recovered from the Hudson River, authorities confirmed. A kayaker alerted the NYPD after spotting the body of Charles Van der Horst, 67, of Chapel Hill, NC Tuesday morning, they said. It was brought to the Dyckman Street Boat Marina. The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Marine Services Bureau assisted the NYPD Harbor Patrol Unit in the recovery. UPDATE: The long-distance swimmer believed drowned during the next-to-last-leg of a 120-mile marathon was an internationally-recognized AIDS researcher, activist and former professor at the University of North Carolina.
