An Englewood officer escaped serious injury when a police cruiser was rammed by a driver in a stolen car, authorities said. Several occupants were in the 2019 Honda Pilot when a license plate reader flagged the vehicle – which had been reported stolen out of Elizabeth earlier that day -- shortly after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, Deputy Police Chief Matthew de la Rosa said. Five Out-Of-Towners Seized After Paramus Stolen Car Pursuit Ends In Englewood Crash
An Essex County quintet was arrested by Paramus police following the pursuit of a stolen Dodge Challenger that crashed in Englewood. Officer Slavko Bajovic spotted the stolen muscle car on southbound Route 17 after hearing an alert that it was involved in an attempted vehicle theft in Ridgewood shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Englewood Man Critically Injured In Suspected Suicide Jump From Route 4 Overpass
A 30-year-old Englewood man was undergoing a lengthy emergency surgery after jumping from a Route 4 overpass early Tuesday in a suspected suicide attempt, authorities said. Responding city police officers found him moving but severely injured on South Dean Street below the highway at 7:15 a.m., Deputy Chief Gregory Halstead said. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with a possibly severe spinal injury, along with heavy facial injuries and cuts, responders said. South Dean Street was temporarily closed between Van Nostrand Avenue and Rockwood Place, Halstead said.

Two Englewood Pedestrians Struck In Back-To-Back Crashes
Two Englewood pedestrians were struck Friday by vehicles only three blocks and barely 45 minutes apart, authorities said. A 45-year-old woman was struck at 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of East Palisade Avenue and South Dean Street by a 1999 Buick Century driven by a 77-year-old man, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. UPDATE: Weather-related utility troubles closed streets, cut power to thousands of customers and kept responders busy Friday morning in Hackensack, Elmwood Park, Englewood and elsewhere in Bergen County. Passaic Street in Hackensack was closed between Summit Avenue and Esplanade in Hackensack because of a downed wire that temporarilyy knocked out power to more than 2,500 customers, PSE&G said.
