Police in Rutherford are investigating a Route 3 crash that they say was likely caused by a driver in the express lanes trying to cut across to the local lanes Sunday, Aug. 11. A 51-year-old man from Sussex was in a Honda Fit was in the left lane of the westbound express lanes when he tried to cut across the roadway to get to the local exits near Park Avenue when he clipped a Toyota Highlander around 4:20 p.m., Rutherford Police Chief John Russo said. High Winds Wreak Havoc In NJ Leaving Roads Closed, Hundreds Without Power
Wind gusts up to 50 mph were wreaking havoc across New Jersey on Friday, Aug. 9. As of 2:30 p.m., thousands of residents were without power and multiple roadways were closed due to downed wires and related crashes. The National Weather Service also issued a new tornado watch across North Jersey. An earlier watch for South Jersey and much of Pennsylvania has been lifted. Overturned Tractor Trailer Shuts All Lanes Of NJ Turnpike In Bergen County
All lanes of the NJ Turnpike were closed as of 10:55 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 due to a tractor trailer that overturned in Bergen County, the NJDOT site says. It happened around 10:40 p.m. in the express lanes on the northbound side, just south of Exit 71 for Broad Avenue in Leonia. All lanes were blocked as of press time.

A crash involving two NJ Department of Transportation vehicles and a dump truck closed Route 208 in Bergen County Monday, July 15, police said. The NJDOT vehicles were conducting street sweeping operations in a work zone on the left shoulder of the roadway in the left shoulder near Summit Avenue when the crash with a privately-owned dump truck occurred just after 10:15 a.m. in Franklin Lakes, Police Capt. A 45-year-old Easton, PA man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Route 78 in New Jersey on Tuesday, July 2, authorities said. At 10:04 p.m., a BMW motorcycle traveling eastbound on Route 78 in Greenwich Township struck the back of a 2017 Toyota Camry, Charles Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, was ejected and was subsequently struck by a 2020 Toyota Camry, killing him, Marchan said. Two major crashes closed two major highways early Monday, June 24 in Passaic County. The first crash happened when a motorcycle and commercial truck collided just before 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 46, Clifton police said. The motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries. All lanes were closed between Hazel Street and Paulson Avenue as of 9:40 a.m. Meanwhile, an overturned tractor trailer closed Route 80 in Paterson the eastbound ramp to Exit 58 just after 6:25 a.m., the NJDOT site says. All lanes were closed as of 7:40 a.m.

Tractor Trailer Crash Closes NJ Turnpike In Bergen County
A crash between a tractor trailer and a passenger car closed a portion of the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County Sunday evening, June 16, authorities said. The tractor trailer collided with a Toyota SUV on the northbound side at milepost 120.3 in Leonia, just before 8:30 p.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Jeffrey Lebron said. Minor injuries were reported, however, all lanes were blocked for a significant amount of time. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was available.

Diesel Tank Dislodges, Hits Car In Messy Crash That Closed Route 80 For Hours: Police
A Freightliner driver was hospitalized after being rear-ended by an SUV in a crash that closed a portion of Route 80 closed for several hours on Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, state police said. The crash occurred on the westbound side near milepost 22.4 in Allamuchy just before 8 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Troy McNair told Daily Voice. A Chevy SUV lost control and rear-ended the tractor-trailer, causing its tank, which was carrying diesel fuel, to come loose and hit a Subaru passenger vehicle, McNair said. A single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday night downed utility wires on Route 17 in Paramus. The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12. Only one lane was passable on the southbound side while the wreckage was removed and police investigated. An occupant was extricated, although word was that Injuries didn't appear serious. Firefighters Douse Overnight Freight Train Blaze In Maywood
A rolling dumpster fire of sorts was doused overnight in Maywood after a blaze ignited in a railroad car carrying construction debris and trash. Maywood Avenue was closed from Central to East Hunter Avenue after the train came to a stop, blocking the crossing, just after midnight Friday, March 17. Concern was initially expressed over a car purportedly carrying hazardous materials five or so car-lengths away, but firefighters contained the blaze. ALERT: Water Main Break Closes Major Roadway Near Route 3
A 12-inch water main break temporarily closed a major thoroughfare near Route 3 in Clifton. "Customers in the immediate area may experience low pressure [and] discolored or no water while repairs are made," Bryan Frierson of the Passaic Valley Water Commission said shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16. Driver Climbs Out After Rollover Crash In Wayne
No serious injuries were reported in a rollover crash on New Year's Eve in Wayne. The 2020 Honda Accord apparently struck a decorative boulder on the side of Garside Avenue near Langdale Road and rolled shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wayne firefighters responded and the driver got out OK.
