Hackensack Resident, Cat Flee House Fire
A resident and his cat got out OK before Hackensack firefighters quickly doused a house blaze. No injuries were reported in the fire, which ignited in the ceiling of a second-floor bathroom between the rafters and the third floor of the single-family corner house at Clinton and Clarendon places shortly after 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21. UPDATE: Bystanders helped free a 30-year-old driver after she fell asleep and her SUV slammed into a utility pole in Glen Rock, authorities said. The 2011 Kia Sportage split the pole into pieces, then rolled onto the driveway of a Lincoln Avenue residence between Greenway Road and Isabella Place shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. A driver from the West Coast was hospitalized after he crashed his new pickup truck into a utility pole on Route 9W in Englewood Cliffs, downing wires and forcing the entire road closed, authorities said. The 36-year-old resident of Santa Cruz, CA was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center after his 2023 Ford F150 crashed on Sylvan Avenue just south of Sherwood Avenue shortly before midnight Monday, Aug. 14, Englewood Cliffs Police Detective Lt. A downed tree in Ridgewood on Monday knocked a transformer from a utility pole, yanked down wires, caused some area outages and generally proved to be a nuisance. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Van Splits Utility Pole On Route 4 Approach
A van slammed into a utility pole, splitting it, just off westbound Route 4 on Friday. The driver of the Chevrolet Astro van was checked out at the scene and released following the crash just past Lakeview Street on the Grand Avenue approach to the highway in River Edge shortly before noon Aug. 4. The incident jammed area traffic. All Points Towing removed the vehicle and a crew from PSE&G replaced the pole.

The northbound highway was closed for a little over a half-hour after a vehicle slammed into a utility pole near Midland Avenue around 10:30 p.m. July 12. A 78-year-old driver was hospitalized and received a summons after his SUV collided with another vehicle and slammed into a utility pole in Paramus on Sunday. A 10-year-old passenger in the Honda CR-V was treated for facial injuries at the scene of the 5:20 p.m. July 2 crash on Paramus Road across from Fairway Oaks Park. A driver escaped serious injury when an SUV split a utility pole at a busy intersection just off northbound Route 17 in Paramus.
