Clifton PD: Garfield Victims Chase Down, Disarm Crowbar-Swinging Robber
A man who snatched two scooters in Garfield swung a crowbar at the pursuing owners but was quickly disarmed before being seized by Clifton police, authorities said. Julio Rivera, 45, of Vineland grabbed the scooters in Garfield and fled into Clifton pursued by the victims, Clifton Police Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. Rivera told his pursuers he had a gun, then began swinging the crowbar, the lieutenant said. Police who responded to the scene at Parker and Ackerman avenues found that they'd disarmed Rivera. Police: Detectives Capture Teens Who Stabbed Clifton Man In Chest During Street Robbery
Clifton detectives tracked down two boys – one of them 14 – who they said stabbed a city man in the chest while robbing him. The robbers also cut the 43-year-old Clifton victim on his face when they attacked him near the corner of Highland and Parker avenues on Jan. 3 before fleeing with $300 in cash, Detective Lt. One of two men chased down by Clifton police in separate assaults on women was carrying a knife, 41 folds of heroin and a crack pipe, authorities said. The incidents occurred within an hour of one another. Officers responding to a report of a 7 p.m. assault Wednesday at Norwood Avenue and Hazel Street began searching for 28-year-old Matthew Johnson of Clifton, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. A trio of street dwellers mugged a fellow homeless man in broad daylight in Clifton on New Year’s Eve, authorities said. One of the assailants tried to stab him, but the victim’s jacket prevented the blade from penetrating, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. A robber rushed a New York City driver stopped at a Clifton red light in broad daylight and punched him in the face when the victim refused to give up his watch, authorities said. A 48-year-old Clifton woman told city police a robber on a bicycle kicked her in the ribcage, ripped her purse from her arm and rode off from Botany Village toward Passaic mid-Sunday morning.
