NJ Native Loretta Swit Dies; Played Colorful Character 'Hot Lips' Houlihan On M*A*S*H
Loretta Swit, who starred on one of the most popular shows in television history, has died.
Swit, who played the charming and colorful head nurse Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan on the CBS smash hit M*A*S*H, was age 87 and resided in New York City, where she died early Friday afternoon, May 30. She was a native of Passaic, New Jersey.
A cause of death has not been announced.
After performing in theatrical productions, including on Broadway, Swit moved to Hollywood in 1969 and appeared on several successful TV series, including Hawaii Five-O, Gunsmoke, Mission: Impossible, and Mannix.

Leonia's Alan Alda, 82, Reveals That He Has Parkinson's Disease
Beloved actor Alan Alda, a former longtime Leonia resident, revealed on Tuesday that he's had Parkinson’s disease the past 3½ years.
Alda, 82, told “CBS This Morning” that he'd noticed his thumb twitch during TV appearances the past few weeks and didn't want speculations about his health to become tabloid fodder.
"I've had a full life since then [the diagnosis]," he said. "I've acted, I've given talks, I help at the Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook.
