: Hackensack Police Capture Knife-Wielding Man Wanted For Attacking Woman
A Hackensack grade school was locked down as police pursued -- and then captured -- a knife-wielding Morris County man who they said had just assaulted and terrorized a local woman. Officer Aaron Rios and Police Officer Stanislav Tovbin heard "loud arguing" coming from a Railroad Avenue home while responding to a 911 call late Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, said Capt. Michael Antista, the officer in charge of the department. The frantic emerged and told them that she'd just been restrained by 19-year-old Jean Paul Rubio, the captain said. Rubio "attempted to strangle her, bit her lip and ref…

Racial Tension Divides Hackensack BOE, Black Teacher Resigns Citing Years Of Racism
Longtime Hackensack Middle School teacher Raquel James-Goodman tendered her resignation Tuesday, following a Board of Education vote that she says was just another example of systemic racism in Hackensack. James-Goodman, who had been with the Hackensack School District for 13 years, was saddened and disappointed by the fact that BOE Trustee Frances Cogelja refused to vote on a resolution to promote diversity and abolish racism in the district. The referendum was otherwise passed unanimously by the board’s eight other members. To James-Goodman -- who is black -- the problem is not just Coge…

The impact broke off a side mirror, Natale said. The boy was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with minor injuries, the lieutenant said. Lawsuit: Hackensack School Principal Talked Sex, Kept Touching Me
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A former Hackensack Middle School assistant principal said her boss touched her inappropriately, asked her about buying sex toys and made other lewd comments -- once while grabbing his crotch -- before abruptly leaving the job after she complained to district officials. Supervisors and colleagues then harassed Denise Vega-Moore, alleges a lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Hackensack that names more than two dozen defendants, including the city Board of Education. Ex-Principal Corey Jones grabbed her around the waist one time, put his arm around her another, and once sug…

Hackensack Middle Schooler Brings BB Guns To School
HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A Hackensack Middle School student who brought two BB guns in with him on Monday was detained by police and then sent home, authorities said. A source with knowledge of the situation said it was the second time it had recently happened at the Union Street school, which has roughly 1,500 students in grades 5-8. The situation was handled without incident, Acting Schools Supt. Rosemary Marks said in a letter to parents (see photo above). The Hackensack Police Department's school resource officer responded to the school and took the sixth grader into custody before he was …
