White Christmas Eve? Here's When Next Round Of Snow Could Be Coming
The next round of snowfall during what's been an active weather pattern could be coming on Christmas Eve in much of the Northeast, with snow showers possible in parts of the mid-Atlantic. See the image above from AccuWeather for a look at areas where forecast models say snow and snow showers are possible along the East Coast on Tuesday, Dec. 24 (shown in the lighter shades of blue). A weak storm is likely to move quickly eastward from the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley during the day on Dec. 24 and then through the central Appalachians, the mid-Atlantic and New England from the evening hours o…

Winter 2024-25 Forecast Released By NOAA National Weather Service
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has just released its outlook for the winter of 2024-25. A“slowly-developing” La Niña is expected to shape weather throughout the country from December through February, NOAA says. The La Niña phenomenon occurs when water temperatures near the equator in the eastern Pacific Ocean remain below the historical average for an extended period, which can significantly influence weather patterns across North America, including the trajectory of snowstorms. “This winter, an emerging La Niña is anticipated to …

Another Impactful Storm To Follow Snowy Weekend In Northeast: Forecasters
Forecasters are touting a massive storm expected to drop several inches of snow on the East Coast this weekend. But some weather maps show parts of the Northeast will get only rain, and no snow at all, noting a another impactful storm could be coming mid-week next week, AccuWeather reports. The storm coming Saturday, Jan. 6 will move northeast from the Gulf Coast toward the mid-Atlantic between 12 and 1 p.m., according to AccuWeather and the National Weather Service. Our first chance for some accumulating and potentially impactful snowfall this season will occur for some this wee…

Winter 2022-23 Forecast Released By NOAA National Weather Service
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has just released its outlook for the winter of 2022-23 with a strong element of uncertainty for this region.La Niña returns for the third consecutive winter, driving warmer-than-average temperatures for the Southwest and along the Gulf Coast and eastern seaboard. So in a nutshell, for the Lower 48, it comes down to warmer and drier conditions than average in the south, and a bit of a mystery here up north. NOAA's National Weather Service forecasters are predicting that much of the Northeast "falls into the category of eq…

Tropical Storms Marco, Laura No Threat Here, Metro Area Weather Expert Says
New Jersey, New York and Connecticut "need not worry" that two tropical storms headed toward the Gulf Coast will ever make their way here, a local weather expert said Saturday. In a rare occurrence, Marco and Laura are expected to make landfall 24 hours apart starting Monday, although exactly where was still uncertain, meteorologist Joe Cioffi said. That doesn't mean we should pay them any mind, he said. "Both tropical systems will likely rain themselves out in the Lower Mississippi Valley and Gulf states thanks to a deep trough in Eastern Canada and a screaming northwest jet stream from t…

SNAP: Temps In Teens, 20s Headed Our Way
Snow in't the issue: The kind of cold that ordinarily doesn't hit the tri-state area 'till New Year’s Eve is “the real story” for Friday and Saturday, an expert meteorologist warns. Temperatures in North Jersey, Rockland and areas just north will be in the 20s and low 30s on Friday – but that’s just the start, Joe Cioffi said in a Thursday report. On Saturday, “it’s going to be teens and 20s just about everywhere,” he said. Predictions of snow for the tri-state area this weekend are “a big yawn,” Cioffi said. It’s the approaching cold front that should concern people, he said. “It would …
