New Jersey Adds Gender 'X' Option For Drivers Licenses
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is adding an “X” gender option to drivers licenses and non-driver identification cards. Gender “X” will indicate a gender is unspecified, and it will be offered alongside the existing “M” (male) and “F” (female) gender options on licenses and IDs. This is offered not only to New Jersey residents who identify as non-binary, but for anyone who prefers that their gender not be specified on their license or ID. Murphy Signs Bills That Will Reduce Wait Time In MVC Lines For Some NJ Residents
A pair of bills signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy this will save the state's senior residents time in line at Motor Vehicle Commission agencies. One bill -- both signed Thursday -- gives new state residents 120 days (as opposed to 60) to get New Jersey licenses and get their registrations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The other allows agencies to use old photos of drivers age 65 and older more than eight years. The latter also applies to those with certain medical conditions who cannot wear face masks. Sacco, Other Hudson Lawmakers Support Licenses For Undocumented Immigrants
State Sen. Nicholas Sacco (D-32) Thursday joined Assembly members Angelica Jiminez and Pedro Mejia in favoring proposed legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers licenses. Speaking in North Bergen, Sacco said the legislation would "make our streets safer" by enabling drivers who are not in the U.S. legally to get insurance and to pass a driving test.
