Superintendent: Outsider Uttered Racial Epithet Used At High School Football Game In Oakland
The superintendent of the Ramapo Indian Hills School District said Wednesday that the person who uttered a racial slur against a visiting student from Englewood was an out-of-towner and not a district student. The word was used during last Friday night's varsity game visiting Dwight Morrow High School and host Indian Hills High School, they said. Sussex Caregiver Charged With Stealing $18,500 From Bergen Patient
A caregiver was charged with stealing $18,500 from a 97-year-old Oakland patient. Lori Bennett, 55, of Wantage forged four checks and deposited the money into a personal account over a three-month span, Lt. Christian Eldridge said. Bennet was charged with theft and forgery and released pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack. Detective Sgt. Mark Piercy and Detective Christopher Tinio investigated.

Multi-Alarm Fire Ravages Oakland Home
Two firefighters suffering heat exhaustion were hospitalized during a fast-moving fire that began in an attached garage and extended to an Oakland home. No other injuries were reported in the noontime Ramapo Valley Road fire, which went to five alarms for coverage Tuesday amid extreme temperatures. Firefighters from Franklin Lakes, Mahwah, Pompton Lakes, Waldwick and Wyckoff assisted their Oakland colleagues. Ramapo Valley Road was temporarily closed between Navajo Way and Franklin Avenue.
