5-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Backyard Bergen Pool
A 5-year-old boy died in a backyard pool drowning in Cresskill over the July 4th weekend, authorities confirmed Tuesday. Cresskill police and members of BLS and ALS teams responded to a home in the East Hill section of town at 6:51 p.m. Monday, police records show. CPR was conducted after the boy went into cardiac arrest, responders said. The child was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead hours later, they said. Clifton Man Charged With Hitting Child
A 47-year-old Clifton man was charged with hitting a child, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced. "On September 9, 2020, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received a report of an 11-year-old child who was examined by a pediatrician for certain injuries," Valdes said in a release. A 15-year-old Lyndhurst girl kept walking when a driver pulled up and asked if she wanted a ride to the park. Moments later, she said, he approached her on foot. 2-Year-Old Child Picks Up Loaded Handgun Left At Warren County Playground
A 2-year-old found and picked up a loaded handgun left at a Phillipsburg playground over the weekend, authorities said. The gun was found Sunday afternoon at Firth playground near the intersection of Bates Street and Marshall Street. “I couldn’t imagine it,” Phillipsburg police Lt. John Maczko told NJ.com. “Thankfully, nothing happened.” The owner of the handgun has not been identified, and police are unsure whether or not it had legal registration. The department plans to follow up with an investigation of surveillance footage from homes in the area.

A 13-year-old boy told police two men in a pickup truck tried to abduct him near a busy Washington Township shopping center on Saturday. A 4-year-old Morris County girl was evaluated by her pediatrician after accidentally locking herself in her parents' sweltering car for more than an hour Thursday, authorities said.
