: Grand Jurors Clear Montclair Officer In Pursuit That Killed Driver, Passenger
A Montclair police officer did his job properly before a robbery suspect he was pursuing was involved in a crash that killed him and a passenger, a grand jury has found. Officer Michael Kupchak had activated the overhead emergency lights on his marked patrol cruiser in an attempt to stop a vehicle driven by Gregory Dukes on May 10, 2022. In another police vehicle behind him was Officer Brandon Taylor. : Masked Trio Terrorizes NJ Gas Station Attendants In Three Counties
A trio of armed robbers terrorized gas station attendants in several North Jersey towns overnight Tuesday, taking cash and valuables at gunpoint, authorities confirmed. Information was still coming in as this story was being written. Video of a brief Montclair police chase that ended in a crash killing two passengers from Philadelphia last month was released by New Jersey’s attorney general on Thursday (scroll down for video). Organic Morristown Burger Restaurant Abruptly Closes Doors
An organic burger joint has closed up shop just two years after opening in Morristown. Bareburger on South Street — opened in November of 2019 — is permanently closed as of Monday, according to the Morristown, NJ Instagram page. The restaurant has also been removed from the website’s map of locations. Bareburger had developed a reputation for using organic, sustainable, and ethically-sourced ingredients, as well as having a vegan-friendly menu. An argument escalated into a shooting earlier this week at Cuban Pete's in Montclair, police say. An argument inside of the Bloomfield Avenue restaurant escalated spilled onto the street turned physical between four males just after 12 a.m. Monday, Montclair Police Sgt. Terence Turner said. One male pulled out a handgun and fired three rounds, which did not strike anyone, Turner said. Three Ruger 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene, he said. Police: 21-Year-Old Woman Punches, Spits In NJ Transit Bus Driver's Face
A 21-year-old NJ Transit passenger was charged with aggravated assault following a dispute with a bus driver, authorities said. Police responded to Bloomfield Avenue and Valley Road in Montclair on reports of a physical dispute inside of an NJ Transit bus on Jan. 13, Montclair Police Sgt. Terrence Turner said. Yolanda Bailey, of Newark, apparently spat in the driver's face and then punched him/her over the bus fare, Turner said.

Two North Jersey restaurants were cited for violating Gov. Phil Murphy's COVID-19 orders -- one of them for the third time. Cuban Pete's in Montclair was issued a violation for serving food indoors, authorities said. The popular Bloomfield Avenue eatery was one of three Executive Order violations reported over the weekend, Col. Pat Callahan of the New Jersey State Police said during Monday's COVID-19 briefing. Guest Helped Armed Robbers Who Broke Into Montclair Home During Party: PD
A 20-year-old Montclair man was accused of working with two teens who broke into an apartment during a party and held up guests at gunpoint, police said. Officers responded to the Pine Street home around 10 p.m. Friday, where they spoke with a victim and Jonathan Funderburk. Two people in masks burst into the apartment shortly after Funderburk got there, and one checked the victim's bra, possibly for cash, she told police.
