Dog Found Dead In Food Bag On I-287 Shoulder: Njsp Investigating Animal Cruelty New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s help after a dog's remains were found dead inside a dog food bag along the side of Route 287, they said. Troopers responded to a report of a suspicious package around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, near milepost 25 northbound, according to a release from State Police.  Inside the bag, troopers found the remains of a deceased black dog. Motive Unclear After Gang Jumps Lyndhurst Resident, Flees Off-Duty Officer An off-duty police officer rescued a Lyndhurst man who was jumped by a group of assailants as he and his wife left their apartment, authorities said. The attackers were "all wearing facial coverings" when they demanded entry into the victim's Stuyvesant Avenue home around 6 a.m. Thursday, Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said. The passing officer scared them off, however, he said.
