Officers responding to a complaint at the CVS parking lot on River Road just before 9 p.m. Sunday said they found tire tracks and a Jeep with off-road tires matching the tracks on one of the mounds parked nearby.
Lt. Kevin J. Kiene reported that he approached Eric Kapoor, 26, of Paramus (above) who was standing in front of a nearby pizzeria. He admitted that he was the driver.
After the lieutenant requested his license, registration and insurance, Kapoor went into the pizzeria and didn’t come out, police said..
Kiene went in, found Kapoor working the cash register and again requested the documents.
When he refused, Kiene announced that Kapoor was under arrest, police reported. As the lieutenant went to handcuff him, however, Kapoor resisted and was taken to the ground, they said.
Kiene called for backups as Kapoor continued wrestling with him, police said.
At that point, 44-year-old Kenneth Marino entered the store and tried to stop Kiene, who “had to push him away,” they reported.
Officer Darrell Marshall then arrived and helped Kiene subdue Kapoor.
Meanwhile, Marino “reached out and pushed Lt. Kiene” and grabbed Marshall’s right arm “in an attempt to stop officer from arresting” Kapoor, police reported.
He, too, was taken into custody.
Both were released on court summonses charging them with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and hindering apprehension.
No injuries were reported.
