The fight broke out around 7:30 last night on the second level of the south parking deck at the mall, Paramus Police Chief Christopher Brock said.

At some point, one of the three pulled out a knife and went for the victim’s head, but he “defended himself and blocked the attack, slashing his hand in the process,” the chief said.

Everyone took off, including the slasher, described as white, late teens, about 5-foot-10, with brown hair and wearing a white shirt, dark shorts and a gold covered chain. He and the other two teens he was with bolted in a grey Honda, Brock said.

The victim and a friend drove to Chilton Hospital, where the teen received medical care for his hand.

Investigation is continuing at this time.

Pequannock police called their Paramus counterparts, who headed to the hospital.

Detectives John Toohey and Tom Schroeder interviewed both teens.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the detectives at (201) 262-3400.
