Caroline McCourt was released on a July 7 Municipal Court summons after her 2010 Nissan Sentra crossed into oncoming traffic, jumped a curb and hit the tree in front of a home on Cole Court at 3:45 a.m. Monday, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Backseat passenger Michele McCourt was seriously injured, Molinelli said. A third sister, Elizabeth McCourt, who was sitting in front, was also injured but not as seriously, he said.

All three are 23.

In addition to two criminal counts of assault by auto, Caroline McCourt was issued summonses for DWI, reckless driving, failing to keep right and refusing to give a breath sample, the prosecutor said.
