Paramus Police Officer Finds Gun, Ammo In Vermont Trio's Car

PARAMUS, N.J. -- A trio from Vermont had a handgun and ammo in their car when Paramus police said they stopped them for speeding on Route 17.

Officer Henry Ramm smelled raw marijuana after pulling over the 2001 Volkswagon Cabriolet just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Deputy Police Chief Robert Guidetti said Wednesday.

He immediately arrested the driver -- identified as Scott Ross, 31, of Rutland, VT -- for possession of drug paraphernalia, then found the .45-caliber Taurus “Judge” handgun and .45 caliber ammunition for it during a search, Guidetti said.

Ross and passengers Kathleen E. Fuentas, 25, and Richard Torruellas Jr., 22, were all charged with weapons possession, the deputy chief said.

Fuentes also was charged with tampering with evidencce by trying to hide a bag of pot, he said.

Ross also received summonses for careless driving, failing to signal a lane change and having drugs in a motor vehicle.

All three were released without bail pending a Feb. 17 court hearing.
