Paramus police nab heroin users

Paramus police picked off two heroin users — one 62 and the other 42 — whose monkeys were so big, they said, that the pair took cabs to a from Rahway to get their fixes. They were carrying 49 small bags of smack at the time, authorities said.

Paramus Police Chief Christopher Brock said Mary Neenan, 62, and 46-year-old Thomas Cataldo have been living at an area hotel, catching cabs to Rahway for the 60-mile round trip to feed their habits.

Neenan is originally from Fairview, while the 6-foot, 190-pound Cataldo is from Roselle, records show.

After tailing them on a recent trip, Paramus Detectives Robert VonSchalscha, Frank Scott and John Devine stopped the pair in a cab and found them carrying the heroin, as well as two hypodermic needles and a straw, Brock said.

Both are being held at the Bergen County Jail, charged with heroin and paraphernalia possession. Cataldo’s bail is $10,000, Neenan’s $5,000.

Derived from the poppy flower, heroin is considered the most destructive of recreational drugs. Many users each year overdose and die, or are arrested. All for a rush that, at its peak, lasts barely 10 seconds.
