A Buttonwood Drive resident's report of breaking glass and flashlights in a neighbor's back yard at 7:25 p.m. Thursday brought Officer Donal Liu, who spotted a Jeep with Pennsylvania registration in front of the home with the engine running, Police Chief Kenneth R. Ehrenberg said.

As Liu approached, the Jeep suddenly sped off onto Circle Drive, where other officers stopped it at Farview Avenue.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Wilmar Cano of East Elmhurst, Queens, bailed out and tried to run but was quickly caught, Ehrenberg said.

Other officers searched the victim’s home and surrounding area with the assistance of the Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit for two other burglars who apparently ran off, the search said.

A judge ordered Cano held in the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing on charges of burglary, conspiracy, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

Anyone with information that could help find the two other suspects is asked to call Paramus police at (201) 262-3400 or use the departments TIPS app: www.paramuspolice.org .
