Sanjiv Kumar, 46, of Paramus, reported to borough police that "several of this credit cards were used fraudulently on four separate occasions," mostly at Restaurant Depot stores, Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said.
Restaurant Depot is a wholesale cash-and-carry food service supplier for independent restaurants and caterers.
The case was assigned to Paramus Police Detective Robert Brack, assisted by Bogota Detective John Misskerg, who was on loan to the Bergen County Prosecutors Office White Collar Crime Division.
They found that Kumar "made purchases on his own credit cards and then reported them stolen several months later," Ehrenberg said.
Kumar was released without bail pending a hearing on charges of theft by deception, hindering arrest and making false statements to authorities.
Anyone with additional information on this case is asked to call Paramus police: (201) 262-3400, ext. 1398.
