The department memorialized the ranks that officials are already serving at the request of Det. Sgt. William Wicker, who was promoted to captain on Dec. 15. The senior-ranking officer is the new officer in charge.

“Once we selected a senior officer we decided we would take their cues as to timing and so forth and how they wished to fill the vacancies,” Councilman Garrie Murphy, the police liaison, told Daily Voice.

Sgt. Derek Kahill, Sgt. John Campbell and Detective Marc Fedorchak will be sworn in at the Dec. 15 mayor and council meeting.

Kahill and Campbell were next on the list of people to be promoted once the sergeant ranks became available and Fedorchak has been serving as detective without the title.
