A self-contained heating and air-conditioning unit at the Care One at the Cupola (Pine Rest Nursing Home) on West Ridgewood Avenue “caught the curtains and plastic blinds” shortly before 12:15 a.m., but a sprinkler quickly doused the blaze, Bergen County Executive James Tedesco told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Fire doors contained the smoke to a single corridor, he said.

“All patients were evacuated into staging areas in the facility,” said Tedesco, a member of Paramus’ OEM team and Paramus Fire Company #1 who was among the first responders.

A female resident was transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with apparent smoke inhalation, he said.

At least four ambulances and two paramedic units responded with Paramus firefighters, police and rescue units.
