Joel Berliner, 19, of Englewood was shouting obscenities when Paramus Police Lt. Sal LaFerlita asked him to stop, Lt. John Scully said in an official release.
However, Scully said, Berliner “refused the request from the officer and became belligerent.”
As they got closer, LaFerlita said, he smelled marijuana.
A search turned up a small bag of pot, he said.
Scully said Berliner was arrested, processed and released without bail pending a court hearing on marijuana possession following last Friday night’s incident.
