"Thanks to all of you for making my dad's day," his son posted on Facebook the next day. "He continues to be a proud member of the REFD."

Dinneen died earlier this week at 93.

He was a department member for 61 years.

"Frank was very instrumental in helping me when I was a rookie firefighter," Brett M. Dzadik wrote on Thursday. "This great man always greeted everyone with a huge smile and a hearty handshake.

"The advice, encouragement, support and dedication he had was always above and beyond, especially the love for his family, friends and fellow firefighters."

Visiting is from 3 to 5 p.m. -- with a 6:30 p.m. fire department service -- at Beaugards Funeral Home. 869 Kinderkamack Road in River Edge.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21 at St. Peter the Apostle Church at 445 Fifth Ave.
