The man "was having an episode" with a woman in the Summit Avenue home who left and called police around 9 p.m. Sunday, a law enforcement officer at the scene told Daily Voice.

A Bergen County Regional SWAT team was called out with the man, who was "depressed and threatening suicide," the officer said, adding that no weapons apparently were involved.

Negotiators eventually convinced the man to come out around midnight, but he "apparently changed his mind and struggled briefly with the officers."

River Edge, Oradell and New Milford police responded, along with Bergen County sheriff's officers. No injuries were reported.
