The dealer’s security company summoned police at 5:10 a.m., saying that “2 males in dark clothing” were “attempting to steal tires off of vehicles at Prestige Land Rover,” Paramus Police Chief Christopher Brock said this morning.

“Officers responded to the scene and immediately set up a perimeter around the business establishment,” the chief said.

Officer Sean Nutland spotted the pair, who tried to take off. One hit the ground at Nutland’s command, but the other tried to run, Brock said.

Nutland radioed to his colleagues.

“Officer Michael Pollaro and Officer Anthony Liggio observed the fleeing suspect and chased him down and arrested him in the parking lot of the adjacent hotel,” Brock said.

The officers then found a wheel removed from one Land Rover and most of the lug nuts taken off another — along with a jack that was still beneath one of the vehicles, the chief said.

Charged with theft and possession of burglary tools were  Eric Maldonado Jr., 25, of Yardville, who was released on $7,500 bail, and Alexis Rivera, 24, of Bordentown, whose bail was set at $10,000 because of an additional charge of eluding police, Brock said.
