It was minutes after midnight when Bergenfield police got the call from Jordan E. Turner, 24, saying that he’d shot his girlfriend, Heather Reyes, “and wanted to turn himself in,” Galda said.
Turner, who is being held on $1 million bail at the Bergen County Jail, “could not recall the exact address but stated the house was white in color and just east of a stop sign” on East Quackenbush Avenue.
After checking the area, Dumont police found the house.
“They knocked on the front door and it was answered by the owner, who stated she has an apartment at the rear of her home that is rented by a male,” Galda said, adding that the owner gave them the door key.

Inside, they found the body of Reyes, 22, who apparently had been shot in the chest and abdomen with an AR-15 rifle, he said.
“Turner told the dispatcher he was at the Garden State Plaza Mall AMC movie theater and… further identified himself as wearing a grey coat,” Galda said.
Reyes was pronounced dead at Englewood Medical Center at 1:51 a.m., he said.
Paramus police had gone to the theater within 15 minutes of Turner’s initial call to Bergenfield. Near the front door, they found Turner. He was talking on his cellphone with police, Galda said.
Turner, who is single and worked as a cashier at the PathMark in Bergenfield, is on probation for theft and conspiracy convictions from 2009, records show.
He is now charged with murder, unlawful weapons possession and illegal possession of an assault weapon. His first court date is set for Monday.
