The boy was coming down the escalator at the UNI QLO store around 5:45 p.m. when his hand got trapped at the base, Sgt. Elliot Colon said.
Borough Fire Department and Rescue Squad members used extrication tools to free him.
His mother refused medical aid for the boy, who sustained some minor scrapes, saying she’d have him attended to in New York.
Although there wasn’t a mechanical failure, the escalator was shut down until city officials can inspect it tomorrow morning, Colon said.
Paramus police and EMS members also responded.
