William P. Lyons was arrested by police after a brief struggle moments later, Detective Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.
The Farnham Avenue resident called headquarters after confronting Lyons as he toted the ladder out of his backyard, Sucorowski told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The resident said Lyons “attempted to slash [him] several times with a utility knife but was unsuccessful [and] then fled,” the captain said.
The resident wasn’t injured, he said.
Police Sgt. Francisco Sanchez and Officer Arkadiusz Dudek identified and located Lyons nearby, then arrested him after a brief struggle, Sucorowski said.
Lyons was being held on $250,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and two counts of weapons possession.
