The 73-year-old male driver of one of the vehicles was headed south on Bergen Boulevard when his car collided with a northbound vehicle driven by a 68-year-old woman, Deputy Police Chief Martin Kahn told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The male driver said his brakes failed and his car smashed into others on Cliff Street as he attempted to stop.
The female driver complained of chest pains and apparently blacked out, Kahn said.
Neither her injuries, nor those of the other driver, were considered life-threatening, he said.
Given their age and the extent of the damage to the vehicles, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded to assist borough police.
