RIVER EDGE, N.J. – Raymond Charles Gramkow, a longtime resident of River Edge, and formerly of Weehawken, died Tuesday, Jan. 12.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, during the Korean War from 1951-1954.
A certified public accountant, he was the founding partner of Gramkow, Carnevale, Seifert & Co. in Oradell, and a professor emeritus at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
In the early days of R.E.G.A.L., he coached his daughters’ softball and basketball teams. He served as the president of the Bergen County Chapter of the New Jersey Society of CPAs, and was commandant of the Marine Corps League's Gooney Bird Detachment, where he led a very successful scholarship program. He was also honored as Marine of the Year in 2000.
He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rutgers University and his master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Parish in River Edge.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy (Pesce) Gramkow; his children, Ellen Nickerson and husband, James Nickerson; Janis Agresta and husband, Joseph Agresta; and Celia Riggio and husband, John Riggio; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Visitation is on visit Friday, Jan, 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell.
A funeral service will take place Saturday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, then proceed ti St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mss of Christian burial. Entombment to follow at Fairview Mausoleum.
