Jack Powers, 62, Paramus Resident

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Paramus resident Jack Powers died Monday, Jan. 25. He was 62.

An honorary master chief for the U.S. Navy, Powers worked for the New York City Economic Development Corporation as vice president of facilities management.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Visitation Church in Paramus, a member of the Professional Ski Instructors Association of America and was a carpenter journeyman. Powers had many friends and hobbies. Skiing was his first love, followed by golf and wine making; he was the proud founder of the Burlington Wine Cellars.

Powers is survived by his daughters, Jessica, Colleen and Elizabeth; former wife Kelly; and siblings Frank Powers and his wife Anne Marie, Tom Powers, Pat Smith and her husband Tom, Jeanne Powers, and Steven Powers and his wife Linda.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Mary Powers.

Visiting hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. A funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29 at the funeral home. A 10 a.m. funeral Mass will follow at the Our Lady of the Visitation Church in Paramus. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
