Emil Setmayer, 90, Of Paramus

PARAMUS, N.J. – Emil Setmayer, a lifelong resident of Paramus, died Wednesday, July 13. He was 90.

He was a retired Paramus police captain. He dedicated his life to protecting and serving the residents of Paramus for 39 years. Prior to joining the police force, he honorably served our country in the Army during World War II.

For 70 years, he volunteered with the Paramus Fire Department Company #3 and was an ex-chief of the company. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6699 in Rochelle Park and the American Legion Post # 170 in Rochelle Park.

He is survived by his children, Jacquelyn Setmayer and Deborah Maletic and her husband Eno; and grandchildren, Tara Setmayer and her husband Marcelle.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria; and siblings Max and Margaret.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
