"We're taking law enforcement, fire departments and EMS and we're making a team together, because we want to save as many lives as possible," EMS Director Mike Tarantino said Tuesday.
Deaths are preventable through proper and timely treatment, said Matt Ziemkiewicz, the deputy coordinator of the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management.
"We're going to teach first responders and non-traditional first responders [teachers, bystanders] how to manage that effectively using new techniques and tactics," he told Daily Voice.
Continued training is vital, said Bergen County Executive James Tedesco, a firefighter and former HazMat instructor. He said he wants the county to be the leader in providing the training.
"I believe one of the obligations of county government is to roll this out to everybody that has an opportunity to participate, give them the tools, let them go out and do their job and make us safe," Tedesco said.
