All that could be seen under Grant's matted fur when he was tossed from a vehicle that then sped off was his nose, Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge said on the GoFundMe page.

"It was hard to tell what was beneath the matts, urine soaked fur and filth," the page says. "Wrapped like a mummy in matts, this tiny creature struggled to get up, but was unable to walk."

Weighing in at 6 pounds, the dog was barely able to walk, but craved human touch, rescuers said.

RBARI hopes to give Grant a second chance at life after his rehabilitation at Oradell Animal Hospital is complete, the page says.
