Paramus Builds Affordable Townhomes For Veterans

PARAMUS, N.J. -- Veterans with disabilities soon will find a new home in Paramus as one of the town's affordable housing projects nears completion on Fairview Avenue, according to NorthJersey.com.

Affordable townhomes for veterans on Fairview Avenue should be ready by April. Officials are hoping to find more areas available to build additional homes for those in need.

Six townhomes will be home to veterans with disabilities once construction is complete in early April, according to NorthJersey.com. The housing project, which includes three-floor homes with hardwood floors, two bedrooms, a garage, an elevator, a handicap-accessible shower and space for a washer and dryer, were paid for with money through the borough's affordable housing trust, which collects fees from builders and developers, according to NorthJersey.com. The Paramus’ Veterans Affairs office also will be on site at the housing complex, which will allow the veterans to gain easy assistance, according to NorthJersey.com. The office helps veterans with forms when applying for benefits, said NorthJersey.com.

The idea for the development was conceived three years ago and construction began in October 2014. To date, the development already has received applications from more than a dozen people, according to NorthJersey.com. Once the houses are filled, a list will be kept of the other veterans in need and they will be given housing as new units become available, added NorthJersey.com.
