Inferno Destroys Multi-Million Dollar Paramus Home, Firefighter Slips On Marble Floor: Sources

A massive fire that destroyed a newly built multi-million dollar home in Paramus started in a car parked in the driveway and quickly spread to the house early Monday, March 17, Daily Voice has learned.

The fire broke out at approximately 2:10 a.m., igniting one of three vehicles (two Teslas and a non-electric vehicle) parked in the driveway, responders said. The vehicle that caught fire was not one of the Teslas, responders said. Flames quickly engulfed the garage, climbed the side of the home, and spread to the second floor and roof.

Firefighters battled the inferno for more than four hours, remaining at the scene until 6:15 a.m. Despite their efforts, the home—valued between $2 million and $4 million—was completely destroyed, responders said.

The homeowners—two adults and three children—could only watch helplessly from across the street at a neighbor’s house as their home was consumed by flames, responders said.

During the response, a firefighter slipped on marble flooring inside the home and injured his wrist, authorities said. He was transported to The Valley Hospital for treatment.

Officials have not released further details on what caused the car to catch fire. Daily Voice will provide updates as more information becomes available.
