Jonathan Valentin, 28, of Maywood, took off in a black Mercedes-Benz after Officer Sean Casey tried stopping him for speeding on Route 4 West near the Verizon store around 1:20 a.m., the Paramus Police Department said.

Valentin refused to pull over, racing away at a dangerous speed, police said. During the pursuit, he lost the front driver-side tire but kept going on three wheels, endangering everyone on the highway, according to the release.

Officer Casey got the license plate before spotting the battered Mercedes parked at Miller’s Ale House, police said. The driver fled again, heading onto Route 4 East, still traveling recklessly, authorities added.

The vehicle finally broke down near Teaneck Road. When officers approached, they found 27-year-old Nathale P. Mangubat of the Bronx sitting in the driver’s seat — but Officer Casey determined Valentin had been behind the wheel during the chase, police said.

Valentin was charged with Felony Eluding and booked into the Bergen County Jail. Mangubat was charged with Hindering the Apprehension of Another and released on her own recognizance, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
