The train car-turned-restaurant is seeing its fourth renovation — and owner George Siderias says: it's about time.
"I feel like I'm carrying my father's torch," said Siderias of his father Steve, who bought the place in 1974. "Anything that comes out will be replaced with something 10 times better."
The diner is closing Monday, March 13 for 10 weeks so the inside can be gutted.
The new look will boast an outdoor patio that will accommodate up to 50 people, a build-your-own salad bar in the kitchen and high-end pastry chefs to stock the 15-foot pie case.
There also will be a sit-down bar and a complete removal of the partitions, which were added over the course of three renovations, the last in 1998.
"I've wanted to do this for a very long time," said Siderias, who grew up washing dishes and cooking at his father's diner before graduating from culinary school in New York.
"It's necessary to catch up with the times, or even get ahead of them."
