"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our adored harbor seal," Jenkinson's Aquarium announced on Facebook.

Lucy was a local having been stranded in the Point Pleasant Canal. After being deemed nonreleasable, she became part of Jenkinson’s Aquarium in July 1991.

Passing at the age of 34, Lucy surpassed the average life expectancy of her wild cousins by more than a decade, the Facebook post said, adding "During this time, she captured the hearts of all."

"We are devastated. . . .She will be dearly missed."

The post attracted an outpouring of support and sadness on Facebook.

Drew Van Horn wrote: "Luseal was always my favorite. I spent my childhood here and I was always excited to see her every single time. Thanks so much for giving her a long and happy life."

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center wrote: "Our hearts are with the entire Jenkinson's Aquarium family. We will be forever grateful to you for taking a chance on this special little seal and giving her a lifetime of love with a forever family. You gave Luseal an amazing life. She was loved beyond measure."
