Pockets Of West Nile Virus Reported In Sussex County Pockets of West Nile Virus were reported this week in Sussex County, officials said. Officials in Hampton Township on Aug. 17 confirmed West Nile Virus (WNV) in its adult mosquito population. Four days later, Sussex County officials said its mosquito control division was working to "steadily to neutralize pockets of virus activity detected in the county." Pedestrian, 25, Struck By Car In Sussex County: State Police A pedestrian was struck by a car in Sussex County Monday afternoon, state police said. A 25-year-old was hit by a Hyundai Kona on Route 206 S. at the entrance to the shopping center in front of the McDonald’s in Hampton Township just before 1 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Alejandro Goez told DailyVoice.com. The woman was taken to Newton Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Goez said. The Hyundai driver was not hurt in the accident, which remained under investigation.

Police Seek ID For Pair Who Snatched Purses, Used Stolen Credit Cards At Sussex County Walmart New Jersey State Police are seeking the public’s help identifying a man and woman they say stole numerous purses at a Sussex County Walmart and used the credit cards inside. The couple, pictured above, is accused of stealing purses and handbags from various customers at Walmart in Hampton Township on Tuesday, Dec. 22 around 6:55 p.m. and again on Tuesday, Jan. 12 around 3:45 p.m., state police said. Firefighters Battle Hampton Township House Fire An elderly woman suffered burns to her hand in a fire that ravaged a Hampton Township house Tuesday, authorities said. Emergency vehicles lined Westbrook Lane to fight the second-alarm blaze, which broke out around 4:30 p.m., the Sussex County Fire Wire reported on Facebook. A firefighter got his foot stuck climbing up the stairs of the deck the house while fighting the blaze but swiftly pulled it out and got right back to work, fellow firefighters said.  He may have suffered a pulled muscle, responders said. Motorcyclist, 49, Airlifted In Sussex County Crash, State Police Say A 49-year-old motorcyclist was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries in a Hampton Township crash, authorities said. The Highland Lakes man was headed northbound on Hamptonhouse Road on his Harley Davidson when he was struck by a Honda sedan -- headed in the same direction -- just after 12 p.m. Monday, New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said.
