East Rutherford Deputy Police Chief Phil Taormina, a man who was as kind as he was courageous, died Wednesday, just months after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of liver cancer. He was only 46. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at St. Pius X R.C. Church in Montville (24 Changebridge Rd,). Craig Waldron was heading north when his GMC SUV ran off the roadway to the left, went down an embankment and struck several trees in Bloomfield Tuesday morning, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan said. The vehicle went up in flames near milepost 153.7 around 11:15 a.m., and Waldron was pronounced dead. Morris County Volunteer Firefighter, 22, Dies In Hunter Mountain Ski Accident A 22-year-old volunteer firefighter from Florham Park was killed after he fell while skiing at Hunter Mountain in New York, authorities said. Robert Vrablik was on the Twilight trail with his sister and a friend when he fell and landed on his face and chest around 3 p.m. Saturday, New York State Police said. Vrablik was responsive while being taken to Albany Medical Center but declared dead at 7:18 p.m., police said. Cardiac contusion was the cause of death, the DailyFreeman reports.
