YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Plainclothes Port Authority Police detectives in an unmarked vehicle snagged a 38-year-old motorcyclist who they said tried to beat the toll at the Holland Tunnel this morning by putting strips of electrical tape over his license plate.
Michael Mongalieri of South Amboy was stopped around 7:30 a.m. after the tunnel manager spotted the 2007 Harley Davidson’s plate, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
As soon as he passed the toll booth, the detectives moved in, he said.

Mongalieri was charged with theft of services and tampering with a public record.
