"The gentle giant will be missed by all of the organizations he raised money for – the Boy Scouts, Elks, Doer Club, American Legion and Lakeland High School Band and Choral," information from the funeral home noted.
"He was such a good-hearted soul," Eileen Hovan told Daily Voice. She's a former resident of Ringwood who now lives in Ocean View, Delaware.
Her husband had been a local scoutmaster and her son was a counselor at the Boy Scout camp.
He would sell these little poppies for the veterans: he would sell anything for anybody. Somebody mentioned that he was the true definition of volunteer, and that was certainly true.
Gallagher is survived by his close cousins, Joan and Arleen; other cousins Shirley Gallagher Pescatore, Kathleen Gallagher, Lynn Gallagher Marion, Robert Gallagher and Vincent Scank; and many second cousins.
He was preceded by his parents, Eva and Earl Gallagher, and his stepfather, Eddie Tremain.
"He was quite a great guy," Hovan added.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark Pompton Turnpike, in Riverdale. Interment will be at Clove Cemetery, in Wantage.
