Campaign Aids 'Miracle' Brothers Who Survived Father's Suicide

WANAQUE, N.J. — More than $14,000 had been raised as of Thursday morning on a GoFundMe page to aid the family of two young boys who survived their father's suicide off a Route 287 bridge in Wanaque.

Friends were "lost for words" when they learned that John Spincken held his boys —John, 3, and Frank, who turns 2 next month — as he jumped to his death Monday night.

The fund-raising page was established to help both toddlers, "as well as [for] assistance in paying for medical and funeral expenses."

"I can think of no more compassionate way to help this family heal their broken hearts than to help their boys," Karin Huebner Untig of Hawthorne wrote.

"As with the 7 billion other souls on this planet, John was not perfect. We will never understand the pain in his heart nor the hope that he lost," the page says. "However, we do ask for your courage to love and support the family he had left behind.

"Our hearts break with Fara [Araullo, their mother], who has been so incredibly strong during this time. We are all fortunate that with God's grace the boys are safe and on the road to recovery....From now on, let us remind them how lucky and how grateful we are to have them here today -- safe and sound."
