Unity Through Community Night, sponsored by the Bloomingdale Drug Alliance, starts at 6:30 p.m. at Walter T. Bergen School. The third-annual game includes the mayor and council, teachers, firefighters and police officers competing in a volleyball match.
"[Kids] really like seeing their teachers out there participating in the game," organizer Cyndy Hopper said, "and some ... cheer on their favorite officer. Because Bloomingdale is a very small, close-knit community they know a lot of these firemen and whatnot. It's the parents of the community who are out there on the court."
Around 100 people attended each of the last two years, Hopper said.
The teams will be mixed with teachers, officers, elected officials and firefighters together to promote the unity theme, she said.
Robin Lavorato, student assistance counselor at Butler High School, will speak at halftime about the dangers of substance abuse.
The kids will also use drunk goggles to drive remote control cars and shoot baskets to see how difficult it becomes while impaired.
"It is an eye-opening experience for them to see the difference,' Hopper said.
Admission is free and the first 25 families who come will receive a prize.
Refreshments will be served with those proceeds beneffiting future Bloomingdale Drug Alliance events.
